Elucidating principles of efficient and reliable computations: from neurons to circuits

报告摘要:A neural circuit can process information efficiently and reliably. However, we know little about the neuronal principles underlying the efficient computations in the brain. It also remains unclear how a neuron or a circuit maintains its function when constantly facing diverse types of “perturbations” such as ion channel turnover, stochastic noise, and neuromodulation. These perturbations vary neuronal properties and, in principle, compromise the circuit function. We need to compile our growing knowledge of ion channel dynamics, neuronal properties, and circuit structure into computational principles in neural circuits. In the first part of my talk, I will introduce my work that used experimental data-driven computational models to explore biological mechanisms of cerebellar coding and learning. The second part of my talk will discuss the biological principles underlying neuronal and network resilience in the face of “noise” perturbations. Finally, I will briefly introduce the ongoing work in my lab.

报告人简介:臧蕴亮,工学博士,博士生导师,天津大学英才教授。于2013年获浙江大学生物医学工程专业博士学位。之后在日本冲绳科学技术研究院大学(OIST)和美国布兰迪斯大学(Brandeis University)从事博士后研究,研究方向为计算神经科学和类脑人工智能。2023年放弃美国康涅狄格大学(University of Connecticut)教职offer,入职天津大学医学工程与转化医学研究院。主持国家重点研发计划项目1项。代表性工作以第一作者发表在PNASCurrent BiologyCell  ReportseLife等领域内专业期刊,应邀为Current Opinion in Neurobiology撰写小脑研究进展的综述文章。
